Advice

whatever works for the artwork

Floating or float-mounted? Regular or conservation framing? Choosing exactly the right frame isn’t easy. That’s why we work by appointment; so we can take the time to view the artwork, map out your wishes, and think of solutions. Even if they don’t exist yet, because we’re both frame makers and frame designers. If the materials are available and designs are technically feasible, we can make it work.

Simple is good

‘Keep It Simple, Stupid’ is one of our mantras. After all, not every work requires museum-grade framing. And ‘more expensive’ isn’t always the best option. We always go for the frame that works best for the individual artwork. KISS.

External expertise

Yellowed paintings? Water damage? Foxing? At goedman+ooms, we’ve seen it all. And we know how to handle and treat delicate or damaged pieces. We can confidently repair many issues ourselves, and when the ‘complications’ are more extensive, we can call in our painting, paper, frame, and photo restorers. We can even record an ‘unsalvageable’ photograph as a new source file.

Framing techniques

We master them. Whether you’re looking for a floating, shadow box, or traditional frame with a passepartout, we have extensive experience. We’ll gladly explain the benefits and drawbacks of each option. With attractive examples in a selection of materials.

Conservation framing

Acid-free paper has become the ‘obvious’ norm. UV-protective glass is also becoming more common. But proper conservation framing, particularly museum quality, requires extra tender love and care. Both regarding the handling protocols and materials choices, down to which glue and tape can safely be used. goedman+ooms has the required expertise.
